Terrashare
nixes zips: Terrashare, hosts to The
Sim, won widespread admiration this week
when they withdrew support for zip files from all hosted
Sims sites, making downloads impossible.
"I
thought it was a bit quiet around here" said anonymous
webmaster G, of Skinned
Alive "And I was especially pleased that Terrashare
didn't feel the need to share this information with
anyone"
Terrashare
belatedly announced the measure as an exercise in 'reducing
bandwidth requirements'
And
with Sims sites around the world now moving to new servers,
The Sim
would like to be the first to congratulate Terrashare
on a job well done!

News In BriefPoll results: Sims fans like downloads
With
a massive 922 voters taking part, the 'glass-half-empty'
poll has revealed that Sims fans constitute an entirely new
personality type.
Half-empty
23%
Half-full
9%
Downloadable
68%
We
asked: is the glass half-full, half-empty, or downloadable?
While
23% of readers expressed the pessimist view
that the glass was half-empty, and 9% expressed optimism
by declaring the glass half-full, an astounding 68%
voted for the glass to be downloadable.
We
showed the results to top personality psychologist Dr Ray
Dio. He commented "This is truly astonishing. We never
suspected a third personality type could exist. And in such
numbers. All I can say is, you better have that glass ready
for downloading...soon"
As
usual, voter comments were the key to understanding this surprising
result, with Voter #811 commenting "I think it would
be a hell of an object, you know", while Voter #757 commented
"Isn't everything downloadable?"
Most
worrying was Voter #356, who asked "Does it come re-coloured?";
this Voter obviously has the dominant download gene.

The
Editor is currently in negotiations with object-makers in
an attempt to curry favour with the 68%.
Maxis reply to email
Email
reply, earlier today: 'Most unusual'
In
a story breaking earlier today, industry analysts confirmed
that Maxis, the creators of The Sims, had actually answered
an email.
"This
is most unusual" said one "I can only imagine that
human error was to blame"
Mrs Hope Springs, the recipient of the reply, was later described
as "in shock, but comfortable" by physicians at
SimVille general.
A
spokeswoman for Maxis later apologised for the incident, saying:
"We're sorry. We slipped up. A reply should never have
been sent out, and a full investigation has been launched."
"And
let me reassure everyone: this will never happen again. Not
on my watch"
Sims Artisans Guild closes: anarchy predicted
The
Sims Artisans Guild today acted decisively by closing down
a Sims website accused of plagiarism.
"We've
certainly shown that the Guild has real teeth with this case"
said one member "People have been saying we never do
enough, that we have no power, but I think this should reassure
them that we can, and will, act when the time is right"
"It's
just a shame that the first site we have ever shut down is
our own"
And
as the Sims Artisans' Guild closed pending a full internal
inquiry, anarchy was predicted by keen observers of the Sims
world.
"Well,
it's open season on object theft now" said one "Without
the Guild to protect them, artists are truly at the mercy
of the plagiarists and cloners"
"It
will be anarchy, mark my words" he added, gravely.
The
Guild has struck fear into the hearts of object thieves everywhere
with
it's 'three strikes and you're out" policy, here outlined
for the first time:
Strike
One: The offender is talked about in the forum. This is
usually enough to put off all but the most hardcore villains;
Strike
Two: The offender is talked about a bit more;
Strike
Three: The offender is not put on the Guild blacklist.

Sim 'Am I Hot or Not?' result: Hot!
Hot!
The
first Sim 'Am I Hot or Not?' contest ended today with an offical
verdict of 'Hot', a relief for webmaster FingerMouse,
who had been claiming the skin to be the 'Hottest Download
of the Week' on several forums.
The
skin (pictured above) rated an average of 8.2 with over 600
votes cast. Comments were highly entertaining, but sadly mostly
indecent and hence were deleted. Perhaps the sentiment was
best summed up by Voter #613, who commented "Your hatter
than chrocolate pudding".
This
week sees TWO winners! Such were the quality of submissions
that The Editor could not choose between them. Can you?
A
garden gnome missing for several weeks has started
sending his owner postcards from exotic holiday
destinations, it was revealed today. In an exclusive
interview, Gnome owner Ted Dexter, of Neighbourhood
Five, shared his concerns with The
Sim:
'Having
a lovely time. Wish you were here!'
"The
little guy went missing round about the time
the Baxters moved out" he said "I
thought maybe he'd been stolen, or even exploded."
"Then
I started getting these postcards from all over
the place"
Utah: 'Weather & food great
Dover
castle: 'A bit chilly'
The
gnome appears to have stopped off in Utah before
starting his circumnavigation the world in earnest.
Several postcards have arrived from Britain,
considered by many to be the 'spiritual home'
of garden gnomes, adding to the speculation
that the gnome is on some sort of pilgrimage.
But as we go to press, the final destination
remains unclear.
Andorra: 'Snowboarding kicks'
Budapest: 'Great clubbing scene'
Ted Dexter admits to some anxiety, however:
"I'm a little concerned, sure. Who wouldn't
be? It's not like he's ever been abroad before"
"And
all the time he's in Europe, he's not eligible
for Maxis competitions. You have to admit -
that's a real worry"
The
Sim says: Have you seen this gnome?
Any information regarding his travels will be gratefully
received...
Interior
Design Special The Blueprint collection
Sim
interiors will never be the same again, now that
the blueprint
collection is here!
Maverick
designer Bil Simser this week revealed the first
objects to be produced with the blueprint
application, and as the screenshots show, the
results have exceeded all expectations.
From the studio of Bil Simser
The
long-awaited collection has certainly silenced
the few critics of the ambitious design house.
Bold, colourful and very pointy, it encompasses
lighting, furniture and even gives a much-needed
makeover to the aquarium. But this is just the
start, according to the normally reticent designer.
An attractive lamp
"Pyramids
are just the start: over the next few months
you're going to see cubes, spheres and even
a geodesic dome"
"And next year we're introducing multi-tile
support. For tiles"

Although
the current collection is available only in
the trademark blue, Bil promises to lauch some
other colours later in the season. But not red,
for some reason.
