The Readers Decide

Should poll choices be kept really short?

Yes, I agree: brevity is, after all, the soul of wit. Poll choices of extreme word-length only confuse and dismay potential voters. Recent research has demonstrated that, without a doubt, a poll that lacks concision, lacks voters

The Lenny Kravitz guitar roundup *

He's good isn't he? But he's not downloadable!

Hi people. Fans often ask me about my guitars, my influences, my music. All I can say is: give me the right guitar, and I will give you music. Mostly somebody else's.

Are you experienced?

Take this baby. Three single-coil pickups, but with a five-way switch. Genius. Ideal for copying Jimi Hendrix riffs. Or whole songs, like I did on "Are you going my way?".

Got a whole lotta love

For a richer sound that really drives the amp, you need double-coil pickups. Listen to Jimmy Page playing with Led Zeppelin to see what I mean. Or listen to my 'Is There Any Love in Your Heart' for a pretty close imitation.

Now, will someone make a Rickenbacker so I can perfect my Beatles riffs?

News In Brief
Issue 12 rated 'the best one yet' by fans *

Too bad if you missed Issue 12, it rocked

The outstanding quality of Issue 12 of The Sim was confirmed yesterday as The Editor revealed that literally thousands of fans across the globe had mailed their congratulations, and in some cases, crates of champagne to The Sim head office.

"I am happy to report that Issue 12 was a runaway success. Every story was a classic, every image a work of art in itself. I'd like to thank the fans for their constant and unflinching support through the dark days of Issues 1 through 7. And parts of Issue 9."

The Issue 12 poll reveals that the favourite story by far was the one about the base-jumping Sim unable to find anything taller than two stories to jump from, followed closely by the Friends/A-Team parody in which the A-Team discover that the Friends are Soviet 'sleeper' agents, planted in New York shortly after WWII.

Please note that due to copyright restrictions, Issue 12 was unavailable in some parts of the world, so you might have missed it.

Issue 11 poll results: Too close to call but we will anyway

In another nail-biting poll, Sims fans narrowly voted for a Daily Update in preference to the proposed 'Weekly' and 'Never again' options.

The Readers Decide
I think The Sim should update: [484 votes total]
Daily (233) 48%
Weekly (209) 43%
Never again (42) 9%

But in a shock announcement today, The Editor revealed that no reader need go away disappointed.

In an attempt to please all of the people, all of the time, the following update schedules have been arranged:

If you voted Daily: the Daily Update will begin again in earnest next week, probably;

If you voted Weekly: just come to this page every week or so;

If you voted Never Again: just spend your time in the Archives, reading and re-reading the same old stories, and reflect on how much better they used to be.

Sims fan denies wish-fulfillment aspect of supermodel neighbourhood *

Eva, Natalia, Liz, Pammie, Britney, Tyra, Naomi
...and 'Dave'

Sims fan David Harleyson today denied that his Neighbourhood Four, populated entirely by supermodels plus one guy named 'Dave Stud', was in any way acting out a personal fantasy of his.

"It's just a coincidence" he said "Sure, this guy 'Dave' lives in a household consisting of him and seven famous, beautiful women. And they all go out to work, while he spends pretty much all of his time in the Love Bed"

Dave discusses the offside rule with Natalia Semanova

"And all of the other households in the neighbourhood are populated with other supermodels, who come over to visit and such. And they are all in love with him"

"But isn't everyone's game like that? Anyway, they're not all supermodels. Britney's a singer"

Sim 'Am I Hot or Not?' top (and bottom) ratings

All-time low
Issue 11 of The Sim simultaneously reached new heights and depths of Sim graphical talent, with Rocksaw's entry accumulating an all-time low of 1.5 HU (Hot Units).

In stark contrast, the entry from Openlea's My Sims scored 7.1 HU, joining the top three hotties this week.

This week's entries feature skins from Claw, Princess Liar, and Taz. Which Sims will occupy the coveted Top Three places in the next issue?

  Sims World News
Sim misses day at work, moonshot *

The career path of Neighbourhood Five Sim, Roger Bucks, was dealt a severe blow today as he missed out on the first Sim spaceflight to the moon.

Roger placed the blame squarely on the car pool:

"Would it hurt those guys just to wait a little longer?" he said "I heard the car, got out of the bath, and dressed. By the time I got to the driveway, they'd gone."

The moon, earlier today

"Boy, I tell you, those guys are just so impatient."

As a result, Roger missed the all-important mission to the newly-discovered Blue Moon, and instead spent the day catching up on his reading.

Meanwhile, the National Aeronautical & Sim Administration (NASA) announced that the mission had been a complete success, and released stunning pictures shown here for the first time.

'All your moonbases are belong to us'. Say what?

"Future missions are planned to consolidate the Sim presence on the moon" said a NASA spokessim "And after that, Mars."

'One small step for a Sim...'

'Say, has anyone seen Roger?'

"I just don't think Roger will be featuring prominently in any of them", she added.

Fox TV will be celebrating this historic event with an hour-long 'documentary' explaining how the whole thing was a fake.

Maxis announce teenager patch *

A mutually rewarding exchange between parent and teen

Maxis today announced plans for a 'Teenager patch' which, it is promised, will 'dramatically change' the behaviours, interests and vocabulary of Sim kids.

"Using the Makeover Studio, players will now be able to 'grow up' their Sim children into teenagers" said a Maxis spokesman "Although why anyone would willingly do this is beyond me"

Although the patch is only at the beta testing stage, The Sim can reveal that the new behaviours include not laughing at parental jokes anymore, frequent visits to a place known only as 'out', and (for male sims) writing bad poetry.

Acompanying the patch will be several new sound files that faithfully recreate the experience of living with a teen, including parental favourites such as Korn, Papa Roach and Chemical Brothers.

Incredible archaeological discovery beneath Neighbourhood Three *

Artist's impression of the ancient civilization

The remains of a noble and ancient civilization have been discovered beneath Neighbourhood Three, casting new light on the origins of Sim society.

Carbon dating has certified that the discoveries date from the dawn of time itself - 1985. Yet striking similarities exist between the two cultures. Leading the excavation is Professor Yaffle, of SimVille University

"Although separated by aeons, we found that these peaceful folk were like Modern Sims in many ways. They divided their activities between kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living rooms, they had hobbies, and they even had pets"

Incredibly, Professor Yaffle revealed that the modern Sim is descended from two indigenous tribes:

How the news used to be delivered

"We found evidence of an older civilization from 1984" he continued "These people lived in neighbourhoods, like the modern Sim. They even had the paper delivered. We believe that these two distinct peoples merged, forming the basis of modern Sim society"

"I think this finally puts paid to the speculation that the Sims are descended from Tamagotchi" he concluded.

'That's Life': An apology *

'Unofficial': and how

The Editor was forced into a humiliating climbdown today, following an intemperate forum posting about the popular, but unofficial, Sims expansion pack, 'That's Life'.

The Editor claimed that nearly 2,000 files on the CD were taken without permission from Sims websites such as Seven Deadly Sims, The Well-Dressed Sim and Dr Frankensims.

We at The Sim have now investigated further and would like to apologise to Profisoft and all those misled by this inaccurate statement.

The true figure is actually 3,052 files taken without permission from Sims websites.
